We are delighted to announce that Jason Griffey has joined the organization as its first Executive Director. Jason brings a deep commitment to open knowledge, ethical technology, and collaborative infrastructure that aligns with OSHF’s vision for the future of open science.
Jason has spent his career at the intersection of libraries, research, and technology. As Director of Strategic Initiatives at the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), he guided projects that strengthened interoperability and sustainable open infrastructure across scholarly communication. He has also been a Fellow at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, where his work explored the social and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies. Prior to these positions, Jason was an Associate Professor and Chief Technology Strategist for the library at the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga.
An early advocate for open and community-driven tools, he founded the open-source projects LibraryBox and Measure the Future, both dedicated to expanding access to information and data through accessible, low-cost technology. His work has been supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Mellon Foundation, and the Knight Foundation.
“OSHF represents the best of what open collaboration can achieve,” said Jason. “The community around open science hardware is already transforming how research is done, shared, and sustained. I’m honored to help support and amplify that work.”
As Executive Director, Griffey will lead OSHF’s strategic planning, partnerships, and fundraising efforts, working closely with the Foundation’s board and the global Gathering for Open Science Hardware (GOSH) community. His priorities include developing sustainable infrastructure for open science hardware, strengthening connections across regions and disciplines, and advocating for open science hardware as a vital component of responsible, reproducible research.
